Mathematics Learning Area

At Mountainview High School, Mathematics provides students with opportunities to develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and confidence in applying mathematical concepts to real-life situations.

Across all levels of the curriculum, students are supported to meet the challenges of mathematics while developing an understanding of key knowledge, concepts, and strategies. The programme encourages students to think critically, solve problems systematically, and communicate mathematical reasoning clearly and effectively.

Mathematics also helps students build essential life skills, including financial literacy and the ability to interpret statistical information, supporting informed decision-making in everyday life and future careers.

At senior levels, students can extend their learning through advanced courses such as Calculus, where they develop deeper understanding of algebra, functions, rates of change, and mathematical modelling. These pathways prepare students for further study in science, engineering, technology, and a wide range of tertiary and vocational opportunities.
