Acting Principal's Welcome

Welcome to Term 2 at Mountainview High School

Kia ora e te whānau,

At the end of last term, our community came together to farewell Kenny Diamond and Miss Fisher as they departed for new adventures in Nelson. Mr Diamond has been an inspirational principal and leader in our school, and we owe them both a deep debt of gratitude for their incredible contributions to our kura.

For Term 2, it is an absolute privilege for me to step into the role of Acting Principal and lead our wonderful school. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding the future leadership of our kura. In Term 3, we will officially welcome Rebecca Rhodes as our new Tumuaki/Principal to Mountainview High School. Rebecca will join us on Monday, 20th July. She brings a wealth of experience to our school, including strong strategic planning leadership, exceptional relationship-building skills, and a deep commitment to inclusivity and student-centered education. We know she will be a fantastic fit for our community, and we look forward to introducing her to you all closer to her arrival.

I am incredibly proud of our kura, the quality education our teachers provide every day, and the diverse opportunities we offer. Here at Mountainview, we grow strong, respectful, and independent young men and women, instilling them with the skills, values, knowledge, and determination to live fulfilling lives and build successful careers. Built on a foundation of a whānau-based culture, inclusivity, and a dedicated focus on teaching and learning, our environment allows students to thrive. We pride ourselves on balancing high expectations with genuine care.

Term 2 is packed with fantastic opportunities for our students to get involved and for our community to connect.

We are especially looking forward to welcoming the wider community into our school for our Open Day on Sunday, 24 May, from 1:00pm. This is a wonderful chance to see first-hand what makes Mountainview High School so special.

In addition, there is a vibrant lineup of activities to look forward to this term such as the launch of our winter sports codes, alongside the highly anticipated Waimate and Bayfield sports exchanges, and celebrating our diversity with Multicultural Day and coming together for Matariki. Learning Beyond the Classroom continues to feature as our students find their place and find their people. Opportunities such as Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) experiences, outdoor expeditions, leadership opportunities, and hands-on work experience placements.

As we approach the colder winter months, I encourage everyone to stay warm, look out for one another, and make the most of the exciting term ahead.

Ngā mihi nui,
