Physical Ed - Outdoor Ed - Health

At Mountainview High School, Physical Education, Health, and Outdoor Education provide students with opportunities to develop wellbeing, resilience, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits through active, practical learning.

Physical Education is a course focused on learning through movement. Students develop practical skills while also building understanding of the theory behind performance, training, and teamwork. They take part in a variety of physical activities and learn how to improve performance using knowledge from sport science, leadership, sport psychology, and biophysical principles such as fitness, coordination, and biomechanics.

Health Education empowers students with the knowledge, skills, and values to lead healthy, balanced lives. The programme explores holistic wellbeing through the lens of hauora, including physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual health. Students engage in meaningful learning around relationships, mental fitness, resilience, nutrition, decision-making, and digital citizenship, developing self-awareness, empathy, and confidence to support themselves and others.

Outdoor Education offers students rich experiential learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Through challenging and engaging outdoor experiences, students develop leadership, teamwork, risk management, and resilience. Learning takes place in a range of natural environments where students build practical outdoor skills, strengthen connections with others, and develop an appreciation for the environment while safely pushing personal boundaries and growth.
