Learning Support

Whare Ako

At Mountainview High School, Whare Ako — meaning House of Learning in te reo Māori — is a welcoming and supportive learning space where students are encouraged to grow in confidence, independence, and success. Whare Ako provides additional learning support for students who may benefit from personalised programmes, smaller learning environments, or extra guidance throughout their learning journey.

This calm and inclusive environment allows students to access one-on-one support, work in small groups, or take breaks when needed. Every student’s strengths, challenges, and individual ways of learning are recognised and respected, helping students engage with learning in ways that work best for them.

Whare Ako is supported by a dedicated team of specialist teachers and teacher aides who work closely with students to support areas such as literacy, numeracy, organisation, focus, communication, emotional regulation, and confidence-building. The programme is designed to help students develop practical skills, resilience, and positive learning habits that support success both inside and outside the classroom.

At Mountainview, we recognise that every learner is unique. Whare Ako reflects our commitment to inclusive education by providing personalised support, meaningful relationships, and specialised programmes that empower students to achieve their potential in a safe and caring environment.
