STAR, the Secondary Tertiary Alignment Resource, has funding available for senior students to explore career pathways. This assists students to make choices as they negotiate their pathways from school to work or further education.
STAR courses are interesting short courses that can last between one and four days long, being very practical and hands on, for example, Animal Handling, Welding, Fashion Drawing, Tractor Driving, and Food and Beverage Service.
STAR funding can also be used for more substantial courses where students work towards various National Certificates. At Mountainview High School there is a wide variety of tertiary style courses available for students. Examples of these programmes include: Hairdressing, Automotive, Outdoor Recreation, Carpentry, Tourism and Travel, and Early Childhood. All courses have Unit Standards attached.
