Mountainview High School is widely acclaimed for its successes in the Performing Arts, with students often transferring to the school to participate in its Drama tuition. The school produces an annual production which may be either a musical or dramatic performance. Students also participate in the Sheilah Wynn Shakespeare Festival, frequently winning the award, giving students the opportunity to travel to Wellington to perform in the national competition. It is not uncommon for Mountainview students to be selected to join The National Shakespeare troupe which travels to London to perform at the prestigious Globe Theatre.
Students may also take part in Theatre Sports and frequently attend performances of other theatre performances both in the South Canterbury district and in Christchurch.
